What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the fuel system and its components. The injectors are driven in two groups: cylinders 1 and 4 belong to bank 1, and cylinders 2 and 3 belong to bank 2. The fault code is set when the signal to the injection valves for bank 1 is incorrect, and in this case it is a short to ground.
Possible causes
- Open or short circuit in the wiring
- Damaged injection valves
- A fault inside the engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Look for chafed wiring to the injectors in bank 1 and check that the control signal wires are not short-circuited to each other
- 2With the ignition off and a multimeter, check that the wiring has no break and no contact with ground
- 3Check that the connectors at the injectors are secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Have a workshop measure the resistance of the injectors to rule out damaged injection valves
Symptoms you may notice4
- Uneven idle
- The engine stalls at idle, particularly with the air conditioning on
- The engine stalls while driving, sometimes or all the time
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
