What does this fault code mean?
The code means the VIN is not programmed or does not match the vehicle. The engine control module (ECM) receives the vehicle configuration from the central electronic module (CEM) and compares it with what is stored in the ECM. The code is set when the configuration from the CEM is incorrect or does not match the stored one. The check starts when the ignition is switched on.
Possible causes
- A control module from another vehicle has been fitted
- Faulty software
- A fault in the central electronic module (CEM), which should be traced
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check whether a control module from another vehicle has been fitted, for example after a replacement, since the code is then set
- 3Trace faults in the central electronic module (CEM) and check for other stored codes, as it sends the configuration to the engine control module
- 4Have a workshop compare the configuration in the engine control module with the central electronic module and correct the programming if it does not match
Symptoms you may notice1
