What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors its internal temperature. This internal system fault means the temperature inside the module is too high. The fault can be found both with the ignition on and with the engine running, and the code is set when the module detects that the temperature is too high. It concerns the module's own heat, not the engine's.
Possible causes
- Blocked air supply
- Extreme heat conditions
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and run the engine for a while to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the air supply is not blocked by leaves, dirt or other debris in the engine bay
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment, activate the electric cooling fan and listen for it to start and run
- 4If the fault returns although the airflow is good, have a workshop check the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The electric cooling fan runs at half speed
