What does this fault code mean?
The throttle control on bank 1 is outside its permitted range. The module reads the signals from the two position sensors of the electronic throttle unit, and the code is set when both sensors are faulty. The code can also be set if the module registers that the throttle has jammed while it is controlling it.
Possible causes
- The throttle plate sticks or has jammed
- Damaged throttle unit
- Fault on the throttle position sensors, shown by another stored code for them
What you can do
- 1Read all fault codes and trace the other stored code first, since this code never occurs on its own
- 2Switch the ignition off and check that the throttle unit's connector is secure, looking for loose contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the ignition off, check that the throttle is not blocked and has not become stuck
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the throttle position sensor values as live data and check that they change smoothly as the accelerator is pressed and released
Symptoms you may notice4
- The Check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The car lacks power and performs poorly, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
- Cruise control will not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Supply to the throttle unit's damper motor is shut off, and the throttle returns to its spring-loaded position
- Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
