What does this fault code mean?
Reference voltage A to the sensors is excessive. The ECM checks the internal circuits that supply the components, and the code is set when any of them has an abnormal voltage: too high, too low or absent. The cause may be wiring, a sensor, the battery or the charging system, but it can also be the engine control module itself.
Possible causes
- The supply cable to the sensor is short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Signal cable for the connected component is short-circuited to supply voltage, has an open circuit, or is short-circuited to ground
- Damaged sensor
- Fault in the charging system or a damaged battery
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and note whether there are codes for sensors supplied from the engine control module; they should clear once this code is dealt with
- 2Check the battery condition and that the charging system works
- 3Check that the relevant fuses are intact and that the connectors to the engine control module and the sensors are secure
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensors have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5Clear the fault codes after the repair and road test the car; if the fault returns, have a workshop check the engine control module

- The car performs poorly and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
- The engine stops while driving or misfires
- The engine is difficult to start, the starter motor does not turn or turns but the engine does not start
- Uneven idle and high emissions
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control does not take place
