What does this fault code mean?
Reference voltage A to some of the engine's sensors is too high, which shows up as a signal that is too high. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the supply circuit and sets the code when the voltage is too low or too high. It is most often a knock-on fault from another code, so that code should be traced first.
Possible causes
- Fault in the fuel system, to be traced using the other fuel system fault codes
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code and check whether it is still active with the ignition on
- 2Check other stored codes for a short to battery voltage in a sensor supply; several of them can point to a shorted ground point
- 3Check the wiring to the oil quality sensor, the fuel pressure sensor and the swirl damper, which may be affected, for chafing and loose connectors
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensors are not short-circuited to supply voltage or ground, and check that the relevant fuses are intact
Symptoms you may notice3
- The car performs poorly and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
