What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the relay for the climate control unit and checks the signal to the A/C compressor's control valve. The code is set when the module detects an incorrect or missing signal, or an open circuit in the voltage supply to the compressor.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to supply voltage or ground
- Open circuit in the signal cable or the voltage supply
- The voltage supply cable is short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged control valve (solenoid) or damaged air conditioning (A/C) compressor
- Damaged A/C relay
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Start the engine, switch the A/C on and read the fault status by selecting the fault code in the list
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors in the A/C system's signal and voltage cables are secure, without oxidation
- 3Switch the ignition off and use a multimeter to check that the signal cables are not short-circuited to supply voltage or ground and have no open circuit
- 4The solenoid control valve is on the underside of the compressor; check that its connector is secure
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, activate the A/C compressor and see whether the control valve responds
