What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named for over-temperature, it concerns incorrect signals from the A/C relay. The engine control module (ECM) drives the climate control relay, which gets its power through the main engine relay and is grounded through the module. The code is set when the module detects faulty signals from the relay, and
Possible causes
- Damaged A/C relay
- Engine cooling fan performance too low
- Dirt blocking the air intake at the grille
What you can do
- 1Begin by looking for dirt at the air intake of the grille
- 2Inspect the electric cooling fan for damage and look for any other fault codes that involve it
- 3Make sure the valve or compressor moves freely and is not seized
- 4Fix what you find, then road test the car to see whether the code returns
Symptoms you may notice3
- Temperature control or air conditioning does not work
- Uneven temperature
- The heater does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The A/C system is switched off
