What does this fault code mean?
Reference voltage B to the sensors has an open circuit. The ECM checks the internal supply circuits to the components, and the code is set when the module finds wrong voltage in one of them.
Possible causes
- Voltage cable to the sensor shorted to ground
- Voltage cable to the sensor shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition and that the charging system works
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the sensor wires have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the sensor values in live data and see whether any of them gives an implausible reading
- 5If the wiring and battery are in order but the fault remains, have a workshop check the engine control module and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice4
- Reduced performance
- The engine misfires
- The engine is difficult to start
- The starter motor does not turn, or turns but the engine does not start
