What does this fault code mean?
Reference voltage B is too low. The ECM checks the internal supply circuits for the components and sets the code when the voltage in one of them is abnormal. The cause may be wiring, a sensor, the battery or the charging system, but also the engine control module itself.
Possible causes
- Voltage cable to the sensor shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Battery voltage too low, or a damaged battery
- Fault in the charging system
What you can do
- 1If a fault code for a sensor connected to the supply is stored, trace that one first
- 2Check the battery condition and that the charging system works, and remedy as needed
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors to the sensors are secure
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensors are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the battery, charging and wiring are in order but the fault remains, have a workshop check the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car performs poorly and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine misfires or stalls while driving
- The engine is difficult to start, the starter motor does not turn or turns but the engine does not start
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
