What does this fault code mean?
Reference voltage B to the sensors is excessive. The ECM examines the internal supply circuits to the components, and the code is set when the voltage in one of them is wrong. The cause may be in the wiring or a sensor, but also in the battery, the charging system or the engine control module.
Possible causes
- Voltage cable to the sensor shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Fault in the charging system or a damaged battery
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and deal with any stored sensor codes first; they should clear once this code is dealt with
- 2Check the battery condition and that the charging system works
- 3Check that the relevant fuses are intact and that the connectors to the sensors are secure
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensors are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5Clear the fault codes after the repair, road test the car, and have a workshop check the engine control module if the fault returns
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car performs poorly and lacks power
- The starter motor does not turn, or turns without the engine starting
- The engine misfires or is hard to start
- Uneven idle
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
