What does this fault code mean?
The ECM offsets engine torque to account for the load from the alternator. The code is set when that compensation goes beyond a limit value.
Possible causes
- Damaged battery
- Fault in the charging system
- Overloaded or damaged alternator
- A charger with too high charge voltage was hooked up before
- Worn carbon brushes
- Damaged alternator control module (ACM), which holds the charge regulator
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery is in good condition
- 2Where possible, check the relevant functions of the car with the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 3If a charger with too high charge voltage has been hooked up before, tell the workshop
- 4Read the fault status after the test drive and see whether the fault is still active
- 5Have a workshop check the alternator's carbon brushes and the charge regulator
Symptoms you may notice1
- The battery discharges
