What does this fault code mean?
The code flags a rotor problem in the alternator: the engine turns fast, yet the alternator is not spinning. It is set when the ACM passes a report of the fault on to the ECM, and
Possible causes
- Damaged auxiliary drive belt or belt tensioner
- Damaged freewheel
- Damaged alternator
- Rotor blocked by rust, dirt or loose objects
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the auxiliary drive belt and the belt tensioner for damage
- 2Have a workshop check that the alternator freewheel works and that the rotor is not blocked
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions of the car work, using the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 4If the code returns after driving, have a workshop try a new alternator

- The battery discharges
- Noise from the alternator
- The engine judders under acceleration
- The engine does not start, or is hard to start and cranks slowly
- The charging warning light comes on or behaves abnormally
