What does this fault code mean?
The ECM operates the variable intake system and monitors the control signal to the actuator for the intake manifold tuning valve on bank 1. The code is set when that control signal is missing, and the circuit may be open or shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connector contacts
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the supply wire
- Open circuit in the ground wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged actuator
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the connectors to the actuator and to the engine control module are secure, free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal, supply and ground wires to the actuator have no open circuit, and that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions of the car work, using the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 4If the wiring is intact, have a workshop check the actuator
- 5Clear the fault code after the repair and check that it does not return

- The engine stalls while driving
