What does this fault code mean?
On bank 1 the ECM sets the dampers in the variable intake system (VIS) through the control valve for their vacuum motor. The code is set when the control signal is too high.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged control valve
- Damaged damper actuator
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions of the car work, using the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, activate the variable intake control valve and listen for a clicking sound from the valve
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the control valve is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If the signal wire is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the control valve and the damper
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The car performs poorly and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
