What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the control valve in the variable intake system on bank 2. The ECM monitors the control signal to the damper, and the code is set when that signal is missing or too low.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connector contacts
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the supply or ground wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Supply wire shorted to ground
- Damaged damper actuator
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions of the car work
- 2With the ignition off, check the connectors to the control valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground, and that the supply and ground wires are intact
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, activate the control valve and listen for a clicking sound
- 5If the wiring is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the damper actuator
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The car lacks power and performs poorly, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, during deceleration or at steady speed
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
