What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the glow plug in cylinder 1 and the control circuit for it. The ECM controls the glow plugs through the glow plug control module and sets the code when it detects a fault on glow plug 1.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged glow plug control unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions work, using the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 2With the ignition off, check the connectors to the glow plug control module and to the glow plug for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the glow plug is not shorted to ground
- 4If the connectors and wire are intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the glow plug and the glow plug control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, at times or all the time
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly after use
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly on a cold start
What the fault can affect1
- Glowing is shut off for the damaged glow plug
