What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the control circuit of the glow plug in cylinder 1, where the signal is too high. The ECM controls the glow plugs through the glow plug control module and sets the code when it detects a fault on glow plug 1.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged glow plug control unit
- Glow plug 1 is short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the relevant functions work, using the buttons, controls or a test drive
- 2With the ignition off, check the connectors at the glow plug control module and at glow plug 1 for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to glow plug 1 has no open circuit and is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If the connectors and wire are intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check glow plug 1 and the glow plug control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, at times or all the time
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly after use
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly on a cold start
