What does this fault code mean?
The control circuit for glow plug control module 1 is open. The ECM controls the glow plug function through a relay in the relay and fuse box in the engine compartment, and the code is set when the signal is too high, missing or too low.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, oxidation or loose connections in the terminals
- Open circuit or short to ground or supply voltage in the signal wire
- Open circuit or short to ground in the supply wire to the relay
- Short to ground or supply voltage in the wires to the glow plugs
- Damaged glow plug relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact, including the fuse for the glow relay
- 2With the ignition off, check the connections to the glow relay for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the control wire to the glow relay has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the status of the glow plug control module in live data while glowing is activated
- 5Have a workshop check the glow relay if the wiring is intact
