What does this fault code mean?
The control module has detected an open circuit in the glow plug circuit for cylinder 2 on the models listed. The glow plug helps the engine start when cold, and the fault is mainly noticed as harder cold starts.
Possible causes
- Oxidized or loose connectors in the circuit
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective glow plug control unit
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, note it and clear it. Then start the engine cold and see whether the fault returns
- 2Check the glow system fuses in the owner's manual or the fuse list
- 3Look at the connector on glow plug 2 and the wiring from it for loose, corroded or chafed spots
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate glowing and check in live data whether glow plug 2 is activated
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to glow plug 2 is not open between the connector and the control unit
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the glow plugs and the glow system control unit
Symptoms you may notice3
- Engine hard to start and cranks slowly
- Starting may be difficult when cold
- It may be hard to tell when the problem occurs, and it may be noticed all the time
