What does this fault code mean?
Communication between the glow plug control module and the powertrain control module (PCM) has received invalid data. The two modules need to talk to each other for glowing to work, and the code is set when the messages become wrong. The fault concerns the communication, not the glow plugs themselves.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged glow plug relay
- Damaged cables or connectors
- Defective glow plug control unit
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the glow system are intact in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the connectors and wiring between the glow relay, the glow plugs and the control module for loose, corroded or chafed spots
- 4Check that the contacts on the glow plug relay are firmly connected and clean
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate glowing and check in live data whether the glow plugs respond
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the communication and the glow plug control unit
