What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks the system relay and has found a voltage that is too low on the signal wire to the relay while the ignition is on. The code can be caused by a broken wire or a damaged relay. The engine then does not start, and the clicking sound from the relay is absent.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged system relay
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and try to start the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals are secure and clean
- 3Check the fuses for the system relay in the owner's manual
- 4Look at the connectors and wiring to the system relay for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the system relay is not open, with the connectors disconnected
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the system relay
Symptoms you may notice3
- Engine does not start and does not crank on start attempts
- No clicking sound when you try to start
- The fault may be present all the time, or occur once without a clear pattern
