What does this fault code mean?
When the ignition goes off, the system relay releases only after a set delay, which gives the control module time to finish what it is doing before power to the affected parts is removed. The code is set when the relay releases too late or too early compared with what is expected.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- No supply voltage to the system relay
- Damaged system relay
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and check the battery charge and that the terminals are secure
- 2Check the fuses for the system relay supply in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the wiring to the system relay for chafing, pinch damage and loose contacts, especially where it may have touched the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the system relay has no contact with ground (the body), with the connectors disconnected
- 5Check that supply voltage reaches the relay: measure at the connector with the ignition on
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the system relay
Symptoms you may notice2
- The battery may appear weak
- The vehicle electrical system may have lower voltage than normal
