VOLVO
ECM-P069211 - Fan 1 Control Circuit High. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), XC90 (2003–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has detected a fault on the signal wire to the cooling fan control module, and the signal is short-circuited to ground. The fan is controlled by a speed request, so the fault can stop the fan from working. Related codes for the same fan circuit are ECM-P069212, ECM-P069213 and ECM-P069219.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged cooling fan control module
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the electric cooling fan in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the signal wire to the cooling fan control module for chafing and pinch damage, where it may have touched the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body), with the connectors disconnected
- 5Check the connectors at the cooling fan control module: are they secure and clean?
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cooling fan control module, and also check ECM-P069212, ECM-P069213 and ECM-P069219 if they are stored
Symptoms you may notice1
- Electric cooling fan does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Electric cooling fan is activated at a predefined speed
