What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has detected a fault on the signal wire to the cooling fan control module, and the signal is short-circuited to voltage. The electric cooling fan may then not be controlled as intended. Related codes for the same fan circuit are ECM-P069211, ECM-P069213 and ECM-P069219.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged cooling fan control module
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the electric cooling fan in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the signal wire to the cooling fan control module for chafing and pinch damage, especially where it may have touched positive
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage, with the connectors disconnected
- 5Check the connectors at the cooling fan control module: are they secure and clean, without play?
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cooling fan control module and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Electric cooling fan does not work
- Engine may overheat or run hotter than normal
What the fault can affect1
- Electric cooling fan is activated at a predefined speed
