What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the internal reference voltage for the sensors. The code is set when a reference voltage in any circuit reads too high, too low or is absent. The fault may lie in a short-circuited wire, a damaged sensor or the control module itself.
Possible causes
- Voltage wire to the sensor short-circuited to ground
- Voltage wire to the sensor short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuses for the sensor supply in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the connectors and wiring to the sensors for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the sensors has no contact with ground (the body) or voltage, with the connectors disconnected
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the sensors and the control module. For a permanent fault the control module may need replacing, which a workshop does
Symptoms you may notice4
- Deterioration in vehicle performance
- Starter motor does not turn
- Starter turns, but the engine will not start
- Engine misfires
