What does this fault code mean?
The control module has found a voltage that is too high in the supply to the sensors. This may be due to a wire to the sensors being short-circuited, a damaged sensor, a damaged control module, a fault in the charging system or a damaged battery. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Voltage wire to the sensor short-circuited to ground
- Voltage wire to the sensor short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Sensor wiring shorted to ground or to voltage
- Fault in the charging system
- Damaged battery
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery is charged and that the terminals are secure
- 3Look at the wiring to the sensors for chafing and pinch damage, and at the connectors for oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the sensors has no contact with voltage, with the connectors disconnected
- 5Also check that the wiring has no contact with ground (the body), with the connectors disconnected
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the charging system and the sensors. If the fault is permanent the control module may need replacing, which a workshop does
Symptoms you may notice4
- Deterioration in vehicle performance
- Engine misfires
- Engine is difficult to start
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
