What does this fault code mean?
The control module operates the solenoid in the A/C compressor and checks the signal to it. The code concerns a signal that is too low in the control circuit, and the control module treats an incorrect signal as a fault. The fault may lie in a short-circuited wire, a damaged solenoid or a poor connection.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged control valve (solenoid)
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the voltage supply
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Start the engine, switch on the A/C and test-drive to see whether the fault returns
- 2Read and clear the fault code before the test drive, so you can see whether it comes back
- 3Look at the connectors and wiring to the compressor control valve for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body), with the connectors disconnected
- 5Also check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage and that the voltage supply is not open, with the connectors disconnected
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the solenoid in the A/C compressor and its control
