What does this fault code mean?

The fault concerns glow plug 4, which heats the combustion chamber when a cold engine is started. If it does not work, starting becomes harder. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.

Possible causes

Short circuit in the signal wire between the glow plug relay and the glow plug
Damaged glow plug
Voltage from the glow control unit is too low

What you can do

1Read and clear the fault code, and start the engine when cold to see whether it returns
2Check the glow system fuses in the owner's manual
3Look at the connector on glow plug 4 and the wire from the glow relay for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate glowing and check in live data whether glow plug 4 follows along
5Use a multimeter to check that the wire to glow plug 4 has no contact with ground (the body), with the connectors disconnected
6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the glow plug and the glow control unit
