What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the messages between control modules. The counter in the messages from the transmission control module (TCM) is incorrect or not updated. The code is set when the engine control module receives information about a fault in the transmission control module, and it can be diagnosed both with the ignition on and while driving.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Fault in the controller area network (CAN)
- Software fault in the control module
- Look for the fault cause in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it comes back after a longer drive
- 2Look at the connections between the control modules and at the CAN wiring for loose contacts and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the transmission control module and correct them first
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the CAN network and the control module software
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
