What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module uses signals from the transmission control module (TCM) to determine which position the selector lever is in, and thereby whether starting the engine is allowed. The code is set when the CAN signal and the signal from the directly connected wire from the selector lever do not agree.
Possible causes
- Look for the fault cause in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, and check whether it returns when you start in park
- 2Check that the selector lever is firmly seated and that you are in the correct position when starting
- 3Look at the connectors to the selector lever for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire from the selector lever is not broken, with the connectors disconnected
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop read the transmission control module (TCM) and check the selector lever
Symptoms you may notice1
- Starting and autostart do not work
What the fault can affect1
- The signal coming via CAN is used instead
