What does this fault code mean?
The clutch position sensor signal is sent from the central electronic module (CEM) to the engine control module over the CAN bus, and the ECM compares it with the position switch that is wired directly to it. The code is set when the position sensor signal is faulty, for example when the counter that accompanies the message is wrong or is not updated.
Possible causes
- Position switch incorrectly installed, adjusted or sticking
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connection in the connector
- Faulty position switch
What you can do
- 1Read the engine control module fault codes. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, investigate it first, as it is most likely the cause of this code
- 2Read the CEM fault codes. If the CEM has stored its own fault, that is most likely the root cause and this code is a knock-on fault
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 4Check that the connectors at the position switch are firmly seated, dry and free from oxidation
- 5Check that the clutch pedal and position switch move freely and do not stick, and that the switch is correctly fitted and adjusted
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, read the clutch pedal position in live data and check that the value follows the pedal movement smoothly as it is pressed down and released
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
