What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) compares the signals from the clutch pedal position sensor and position switch and checks that they are reasonable. The code is set when one of the two signals lies outside its permitted range. It does not say what type of fault it is, only that the signals do not agree.

    Possible causes

    • Position switch incorrectly fitted, misadjusted or sticking
    • Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connection in the connector
    • Faulty position switch

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
    2. 2Try starting, auto-start and cruise control with the buttons and controls to see whether any of the symptoms can be reproduced
    3. 3Check that the clutch pedal moves freely and does not stick, and that the position sensor and position switch are firmly fixed and correctly adjusted
    4. 4Check that the connectors at the position sensor and position switch are firmly seated and free from oxidation and corrosion
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool, compare live data for the position sensor and switch as the pedal is pressed and released; they should agree
    6. 6Have a workshop carry out a more detailed check of the position sensor and position switch if these checks are not enough

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Starting and auto-start do not work
    • Cruise control and its disengagement do not work

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
