What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) receives the clutch pedal position from the central electronic module (CEM) and checks that the value is reasonable. The code is set when the signal lies above the permitted range, which may be due to the position sensor, a signal wire shorted to voltage, or a fault in the CEM.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged clutch pedal position sensor
    • Signal wire shorted to voltage
    • The fault lies in the central electronic module (CEM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the engine control module fault codes. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, investigate it first
    2. 2If ECM-U010482, ECM-P193582, ECM-P080582 or ECM-U042600 is stored, investigate it first, as it most likely leads to the root cause
    3. 3Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire from the sensor has no contact with positive or the supply voltage
    5. 5Check that the connectors at the position sensor are firmly seated and free from oxidation
    6. 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop investigate the central electronic module (CEM), as the code points to a fault there

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Starting and auto-start do not work

    What the fault can affect1

    • The brake pedal must be depressed for auto-start

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
