What does this fault code mean?
Clutch pedal switch B detects the lower end of the pedal's travel, meaning when the pedal is pressed down, and is used to tell whether the pedal is depressed or released for automatic engine stop-start. The code is set when the switch stays active for a long time during driving with a certain gear engaged.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in the connector
- Damaged clutch pedal switch B
- Short circuit or break in the connections to the switch
- Damaged signal wire, or a short to voltage on it
- Position switch incorrectly fitted, misadjusted or sticking
- Faulty position switch
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 2Try automatic stop-start, starting, auto-start and cruise control with the buttons and controls to see whether they are affected
- 3Check that the clutch pedal moves freely, does not stick, and that the connectors at the pedal are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 4Check that the wiring to switch B has no chafing, crush damage or loose clips, especially where the cable moves
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the wire from switch B has no contact with earth (the body) or positive, and that it has no break
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data that switch B changes state as the pedal moves. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the connectors and position switch
Symptoms you may notice4
- Automatic engine stop-start does not work while driving
- Automatic engine stop-start does not work at idle
- Starting and auto-start do not work
- Cruise control and its disengagement do not work
What the fault can affect1
- The automatic engine stop-start function is switched off
