What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares clutch pedal switches A and B with each other, and the code is set when the signals do not agree. On cars without an electronic parking brake, an extra position switch replaces the position sensor.
Possible causes
- Damaged clutch pedal switch
- Loose contact
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors or connections
- Wires shorted to earth or to voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 2Try starting, auto-start and cruise control with the buttons and controls to see whether they are affected
- 3Check that the clutch pedal moves freely and does not stick, and that the connectors at the pedal are firmly seated
- 4Check that the connectors are free from oxidation and contact resistance, and that the cables have not chafed or been pinched
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the connectors have no contact with earth (the body) or with positive
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data that switches A and B change state as the pedal moves. If they do not, have a workshop investigate
Symptoms you may notice2
- Starting and auto-start do not work
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
