What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the park and neutral gear positions on the direct wire with the same positions received over CAN. The code is set when the two signals do not agree.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to earth or to voltage
- Break in the signal wire
- The root cause is in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM). If a fault code for the gear position is stored there, remedy it first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 3Check the connector at the transmission control module (TCM) for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and no contact with earth or voltage
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop investigate the transmission control module (TCM)
Symptoms you may notice1
- The starter motor does not engage the engine
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM uses the signal received over CAN instead
