What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the signal from the gear selector's directly connected wire with the signal over CAN from the transmission control module (TCM). The code is set when the wire indicates that starting is allowed while the CAN signal indicates the opposite. The fault is checked with the ignition in position II.
Possible causes
- The root cause is in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) first, as the root cause is there
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 3Where possible, check functions on a test drive, such as starting and auto-start, to establish the status of the fault
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data whether the gear position used by the ECM changes when you move the selector between P/N and other positions
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop investigate the transmission control module (TCM) and the wire from the gear selector
Symptoms you may notice4
- Auto-start is lost or does not work
- Engine starting is delayed or hesitant
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, sometimes or always
- The engine does not start, sometimes or always
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM uses the signal received over CAN instead
