What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has logged a fault on the CAN link between the TCM and itself. The fault may lie in a CAN wire that is broken or shorted, or in another control module on the same part of the CAN network. The eco lamp in the instrument panel may be lit.
Possible causes
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the ECM itself
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the CEM and in other affected control modules first, as the CAN fault may also be set there
- 2This fault code should not be erased until the fault codes in the CEM and other affected modules have been remedied and erased
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break and are not shorted to each other
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment investigate the CAN network and the control modules
Symptoms you may notice1
- The eco lamp is lit
