What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the clutch pedal position sensor, sent over CAN from the central electronic module (CEM), lies below the permitted value for the pedal position. The engine control module checks that the signal is reasonable, including against the pedal switch. The code is set during driving when the signal stays too low for too long.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in the connector
- Damaged signal wire, or a break in it
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Damaged clutch pedal position sensor
- Damaged clutch pedal sensor
- The root cause is in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the engine control module fault codes. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, investigate it first
- 2If ECM-U010482, ECM-P193582, ECM-P080582 or ECM-U042600 is stored, investigate it first
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire from the sensor has no break and no contact with earth (the body)
- 5Check that the connectors at the position sensor are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop investigate the central electronic module (CEM), as the code points to a fault there
Symptoms you may notice5
- Starting and auto-start do not work
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- A message and a warning symbol are shown in the display
- Automatic engine stop-start does not work, both at idle and while driving
- The car may hesitate, surge or run jerkily while driving
What the fault can affect2
- The brake pedal must be depressed for auto-start
- The automatic engine stop-start function is switched off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
