What does this fault code mean?
The signal from neutral position sensor B is missing or too low, which points to a short to earth. The sensor has a redundancy sensor as a backup. The fault is checked with the ignition on and then with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Break in the signal wire
- Short to earth in the connector
- Loose contact or oxidation in the connector
- Damaged neutral position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to sensor B has no break and no contact with earth (the body)
- 3Check that the connector at the sensor is firmly seated and free from looseness and oxidation
- 4Check that the wire has not rubbed against the body or an edge where it passes
- 5Where possible, try automatic stop-start with the buttons and controls to see whether it is affected
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data that the value for sensor B does not stay too low when the gear lever is moved
