What does this fault code mean?
The generator is controlled by the generator control module (ACM), which receives its instructions from the engine control module over LIN. The code is set when the generator has become too hot according to the status from the ACM. Single occurrences may be entirely normal, and the fault is then most likely due to a combination of high ambient temperature, heavy load and reduced cooling in the engine bay.
Possible causes
- One of the fault codes ECM-P065A01 or ECM-P065A07 is stored
- Air intake or air outlet to the generator is blocked
- Reduced airflow or cooling in the engine bay
- Damaged auxiliary drive belt or belt tensioner
- Worn generator brushes (carbon)
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
What you can do
- 1Check that the air intake and air outlet to the generator are not blocked
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 3Check that the drive belt and belt tensioner are intact and correctly fitted
- 4Where possible, check on a test drive that the electric cooling fan and charging work, to establish the status of the fault
- 5If the fault code is set again after driving, have a workshop check the generator
Symptoms you may notice4
- The battery loses voltage or is dead
- The charging warning lights or behaves abnormally
- The electric cooling fan runs all the time while the engine is running
- The engine does not start, either always or on some occasions
