What does this fault code mean?
The air temperature sensor in the intake pipe, downstream of the EGR inflow, measures the temperature of the intake air. The engine control module checks the sensor's DC voltage and sets the code when the value is wrong for too long. The fault is checked with the engine running, and while it is active a calculated value is used instead.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Damaged intake temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 2Check that the connector at the air temperature sensor in the intake pipe is firmly seated and free from looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no break and is not shorted to earth (the body)
- 4Read off the fault code with the engine running and check whether it is still active
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop investigate the sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated value is used instead of the sensor's value
