What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the temperature in the intake pipe, downstream of the EGR inflow, with several other temperature values in the car. The code is set if the difference is too large for too long.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged intake temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse list
- 2Check that the connections at the intake temperature sensor are firmly seated and free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no contact with the battery positive
- 4Read off the fault code at the first start after the car has stood still for a long time, to see whether it is active
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop assess the sensor and its connections
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated value is used instead of the sensor's value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
