What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the intake air temperature after the EGR supply with other temperatures in the car, such as the mass airflow meter, charge air, ambient, engine oil and coolant readings. The code is stored when the intake temperature deviates too much from these for a longer period, and the sensor signal is too high.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to ground in the signal wiring
- Intake air temperature sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it, then drive after a long standstill to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the sensor in the inlet manifold is secure and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body)
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the intake air temperature in live data with coolant and ambient temperature after a standstill, and see whether it deviates clearly
- 5If the wiring and connector are fine: have a workshop check the sensor, which is built into the mass airflow meter
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module calculates a value instead of using the sensor signal
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
