What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the intake air temperature sensor after the EGR supply. The code is stored when the incorrect value lasts longer than a set time. It does not specify a more detailed fault type, so the cause has to be found through fault-tracing.

    Possible causes

    • Intake air temperature sensor is damaged
    • Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wiring
    • The engine control module itself is faulty

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the sensor connector is secure and free from moisture and corrosion
    3. 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with battery positive (voltage)
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read intake air temperature in live data and check that it follows the ambient temperature when the car has been standing still
    5. 5If the wiring and connector are fine: have a workshop check the sensor and the engine control module

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Malfunction indicator (check engine) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally

    What the fault can affect1

    • The control module calculates a value instead of using the sensor signal

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
