What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the intake air temperature after the EGR supply with the temperatures of the mass airflow meter, charge air, ambient air, engine oil and coolant. The signal is too high, and the code is stored when the deviation persists for a longer period.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Short circuit to ground in the signal wiring
- Intake air temperature sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and drive after a long standstill to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the connections at the sensor for oxidation, corrosion or dirt, and check that they are firmly seated
- 3Inspect the signal wire for chafing near the body, and check with a multimeter that it has no contact with ground
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare intake and coolant temperatures in live data, cold and warm, and see whether they follow each other
- 5If the connectors and wiring are fine: have a workshop check the sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module calculates a value instead of using the sensor signal
