What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named throttle position sensor A, it concerns the control valve in the inlet, which the engine control module (ECM) controls. The fault is set when the ECM, while controlling the valve, registers that it has jammed in the closed position or is blocked.
Possible causes
- Inlet control valve has jammed in the closed position
- Inlet control valve is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has good voltage
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 3Look for dirt or debris that could block the inlet control valve, and check that it moves freely
- 4Inspect the connector and wiring to the control valve for chafing and loose connections
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the inlet control valve and listen or feel that it moves
- 6If you find no fault: have a workshop check the control valve
Symptoms you may notice1
