What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has not been able to adapt the electronic throttle unit. The adaptation makes sure the throttle unit values stay within the values stored in the control module. The code is set when the ignition has been on for a set time without a successful adaptation, because the stop position limit has been exceeded. Other stored fault codes can prevent the adaptation and should be fixed first.
Possible causes
- The throttle is sticking or blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the control module and the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read and note the codes. Fix any other stored codes first, since they can prevent the adaptation
- 2Look for oil film, dust or any object that could make the throttle stick, and clean carefully if needed
- 3Check the throttle unit connector for oxidation and make sure it is firmly seated
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the throttle unit adaptation status in live data and see whether it shows that the adaptation is complete
- 5If you find no fault or the adaptation does not complete: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry it out
Symptoms you may notice2
- Hesitation, surging or jerky running, especially at a steady speed
- The engine may stall, either occasionally or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses parameters from the latest successful adaptations
