What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has not been able to complete its first throttle unit adaptation. The adaptation is normally done at manufacture, but after a software, control module or throttle unit change it has to be redone. The code is set when the stop position limit for the throttle has been exceeded.
Possible causes
- The throttle is blocked or sticking, for example by dirt
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the control module and the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Has anything recently been changed, such as software, the control module or the throttle unit? If so, the throttle unit must be adapted again
- 2Fix any other stored fault codes first, since they can prevent the adaptation
- 3Check that the throttle moves freely and is not blocked by dirt or an object
- 4Look at the throttle unit connector for oxidation or loose connections
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the throttle unit adaptation status in live data
- 6If you find no fault: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out the adaptation
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator (MIL) lamp is lit
- Reduced performance
- Uneven idle
What the fault can affect3
- The control module falls back to nominal settings for the throttle unit
- The control module cuts the supply to the throttle motor, so the throttle goes to its spring-return position
- The control module may temporarily shut off the fuel supply
